Ok, so before I mentioned a little bit about vacationing the entire summer and taking it very easy. That is absolutely true. Because of my lack of discipline and my inability to say no to any sort of food or beverage, I have added a little (just a little) bit of junk in my trunk. I can handle it, but I do miss feeling toned up and well, freaking strong.
So, since I got back from my travels I have kicked it into sort-of high gear.
Thought I would try the Master Cleanse. Tried it for a day and realized it was rubbish. (Google it if you don’t know what it is… it is ridiculous). Like I said… it lasted a mere 24 hours.
So, instead I came to my senses and just figured, the eat less, exercise more lifestyle might actually be the way to go. It is more like the exercise more lifestyle because like I said, I have the distinct quality of saying yes to every dessert and food, and yes, yes to any beverage that comes my way.
So, there is an actual point to my story, or my rambling as it has now become.
So, back to exercise more.
Part of this lifestyle has involved, for me, going to the gym, hitting the treadmill, taking some classes, and walking around my neighborhood.
I said walking around my neighborhood, but what I think I meant to say was aerobic racewalking around my neighborhood.
No big deal, right.
Are you familiar with aerobic racewalking? If not YouTube it or something, because it is something. I took two semesters of aerobic racewalking in college and I… hesitate to say I sort of liked it. It is absolutely ridiculous. I look even more ridiculous doing it. I resemble, let me think, maybe a semi out of control ostrich with short legs trying to race to save my last egg or something. Incredibly ridiculous and probably inappropriate to observe. It is like jiggle, jiggle, jiggle.
So, anyways, back to the point. I went racewalking the other day, a couple of days ago. I had my ipod on and was sweating out at like 10:30 am in Houston. I think it was already 101 degrees. (Kidding… but close.) So, the way I do this aerobic racewalking thing is I try to pick the most obscure block in the neighborhood, with the least traffic, and where no one will see me. Then I can really enjoy the racewalk for what it is.
So, I am listening to my music, jiggling along, minding my own business, when a car passes me. I make no eye contact, for fear that if I acknowledge what I am doing that means I am actually doing it. (Whatever that means…) But I am racewalking, and I am avoiding the humiliation of having to openly acknowledge that fact. The car passed and then stopped dead in the middle of the street. Oh shit, I think as I continue my lovely exercise more program. It backs up. I still have my headphones hoping this will deter whatever idiot wants to talk to someone walking like a short-legged ostrich. A nice looking guy pops his head out the window… at this point I figure he needs something, so I take my headphones out. He speaks. “Sorry to bother you but……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
……………………………………………………….was that aerobic racewalking?”
He is laughing, pretty much out loud at this point, and smiling. To be honest, at first I was mortified, but then I pretty much cracked up. I said, “You bet it is, I learned it in college and I am try to make sure no one sees me doing it.”
He goes on to say he is a big fan of watching it as he used to coach Special Olympics and they had a racewalking competition.
Ha Ha. He was a nice guy. And I am shocked he stopped. And we both laughed for a few minutes.
As he drove away, I alternated between humiliation and pride. I think I absolutely was humiliated for about 3 seconds. But then I laughed, made a new friend, and got on with the racewalking. I think I like to look like an idiot sometimes.
Good times, right?
Just started... so far, fantastic.
Rachel Getting Married
I really loved this movie.
